I think my tranny is going out...

Hey guys,

I thing my tranny is about shot. It takes a second to go in drive or reverse. Shifts into second with a jerk, the rest of the gears are getting noticeably firmer. The fluid doesn't smell burnt, and still looks good. But the jerky shifting has me worried...

Depending on the outcome of the responses you get here, join up with Rick and head down to BTS and get a real transmission if the prognosis isn't good . Or John Wood in Holtville, Ca. is another option depending on your location. X2 what Bill said, maybe needs a good fluid changing. Good luck to yaa.

I have owned it for 2 years and haven't changed it yet. I only put 10,000 miles on it. But I don't know when it was changed last... I will change it and see what it does.

Don't need to drive anywhere. I would think that BTS will ship even to Canada.

It is definitely possible to ship a BTS transmission to Canada. Well worth the effort.

Have to watch getting soaked for brokerage charges but it is fairly simple to minimize those.

It takes a little doing to ship the core back. Need to arrange to have a broker to have it clear US customs. Bit of a cost and a few calls to set up.

Flush

While I envy those getting the BTS tranny's, it looks like you are all stock by your signature. A good flush and filter change is definitely a low cost starting point. try this link..

I found an ecm with a chip in a burned truck that I bought, so I put it in my 02. Both 7.3 auto's. So I go down the roiad and give her hell, runs like a champ. BUt I get through a couple of gears up to about 50 and let off and I dont hear any gear drag. its like its in neutral. I speed up and slow down a couple of times same ol same ol. I guess I just busted my tranny. I come back home and switch back to the stock ECM same story. any ideas. I think I blew her up

Another vote for BTS I ordered one! It was actually built yesterday and shipped today! When my tranny started to go out it was real slow to shift into drive. Now it is so bad that when it gets warmed up I have to drop it into 1st manually or it wont go into gear at all. Brian @ BTS said it would be just a matter of time before it wouldn't go into gear at all. It might not hurt to at least try a fluid change first though.
