Horn fuse keeps blowing

Hey all. I'm hoping someone has some ideas. I keep replacing the fuse to my horn and it keeps blowing. There has to be some kind of over voltage or something that makes it keep blowing but I have no idea what. Any help of ideas are greatly appreciated!

The horns aren't easy to get to so start at the steering column and hopefully you will find a frayed wire that intermittently shorts to ground.

This is a pic I found from a '99 to '08 front clip conversion. Notice where the horns are. Ever wonder why you've never seen them.

Here's the LINK to the thread on Pwerstroke.org if anyone's interested

Does anybody know the wire color for the horn? And if I take apart the steering wheel are there any special precautions I need to take because of the airbag? I'm on a roadtrip right now in Fairbanks up from Anchorage so I'll have to check that stuff on Monday after work. Will definitely be checking the wires though for frays. Just need to know where exactly to look. Thanks again guys!

Here's a wiring schematic for the horn. Don't remove the steering wheel unless you can't find a problem elsewhere.
Just remove the steering column shroud to look for a wire problem. If you have to remove the steering wheel be sure to lift the battery connections.

Edit : The schematic is for a 1999 but the colors should match.

Checked under the dash, pulled the fuse box, all wires look good. The wire loom that runs across the top of the engine bay is all good, so I'm guessing I have to look at the horns. Any idea if I have to pull the fender or can I get to them by just removing the splashshield in the wheel well?

You can get to then by removing the inner wheel liner.

Awesome. Thanks Jim! That should save some work from taking the fender off.

So got the splashshield off and pulled the horns out. Connected the horns to the battery with a fuse inline. Fuse didn't blow but only one of the two horns made noise. I'm leaning towards the horns being bad but I'm also worried about buying new horns and them still blowing the fuse in the truck. Thoughts?

Also, does anyone know where the horn relay is located? I'm assuming it's good since the horns would works until the fuse blew. A relay either works or doesn't right? Could a relay make a fuse blow?
