Hi there,
we are working on a 63 econoline pick-up wich should have a mel462 engine. Does anyone know how I could indentify the engine ?
At the moment I only have these pics:
I still haven't found the engine code, yesterday I was under the car working on the exhaust but couldn't find any. Could be because the engine is pretty greasy.
But we will keep on looking.
The distributor appears to be from a 1977 and later V8 and was only used w/DuraSpark Electronic Ignition.
There is what appears to be an oil cap on the left valve cover, that didn't occur until 1965 on V8's.
M-E-L's were 1958/67 383/430/462's.
Count the number of valve cover bolt holes per side. I believe MEL's have 6.
Look at the underside pic and the transmission. One piece trans, and look at the top side where you can see the ribbing between the bell part and the main case part. The Lincoln 462 would have had a Cruise-O-Matic, which is a non-integral bell trans with an iron main case. Pics here:
You're getting closer to a postive ID. One other thing, the exhaust manifold on the original pic you posted (3rd one) looks different than the manifold on the C6 pic you just posted....
