I have a 66 with Bushwhacker cut outs and a 1.5-2.0" homemade lift, would I have room for 33's? I am looking at BF Goorich's new 33-10.50-15 Mud Terrain. They would fit great on my current 15x8 rims. I don't rock crawl so huge amounts of articulation are not in the works. Just a little trail and mud. Also I have the 3.50/3.54 ratio with 3 speed and an 87 5.0 speed density sefi, I think this unit will pull pretty good without rpm's getting crazy on the highway, because in all reality, this is where it will be 80% of the time. It should pull way better than a 4.11 geared 170 6 cyl with p235's. Any one got an opinion?

Does it have flares in the front too? If not, they may not clear.
How soft are your springs? Even if you don't do the extreme stuff, you still want to size your tires to the full suspension travel that you have.
I generally like at least 2.5" of lift to safely run 33's. But since you are looking at a 10.5" tire, you may be able to cheat a little because the tire will go in the fenderwell, assuming the proper wheel backspacing.
Keep in mind that not all 33" tires actually measure what they claim.
If you can find a tire shop that deals in 4wd's regularly (and understand), they should be able to try on a set and make sure they fit before you buy.
Your motor will pull those tires just fine. You may have the need to downshift to second a little more often on hills, but the highway RPM won't be too low. I ran 35's (34.7" mounted) with 3.50s for a long time on mine. I recently swapped to 4.56's and the difference is night and day. Although I do miss the low RPM, highway speed. 65 mph at 2200.
mine has a 2.5" lift, tried a set of 33 x 12.50's. the fenders are uncut and when you turn the wheel you can barely slide your finger between the tire and fender. the 33 x 10.50's on a 8" rim don't seem to stick out as far.
What gearing are you running with the 33's? I have the 3.50/3.54's going , and was wondering if I had would be doggy with 33's. I am almost done swapping in a 87 EFI 5.0. Also no powersteering, would 33's kind of suck a little?
i have the 3.50's also. i like them so that i can still run down the hwy and keep up with traffic without to many rpm's. seems to have ok power (stock 302 2v). if i get off the road i just put it in low range and still sling the mud.
I ALSO RUN 3.50 GEARS. I HAVE A 351w SLIGHTLY MODIFIED. I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH THEM BEING "DOGGEDLY" ALTHOUGH I JUST REPLACED MY 3SPD WITH A C4 AND DUE TO SOME TECHNICAL PROBLEMS I HAVENT SEEN HOW THE AUTO WILL HANDLE THE 33'S.
