'99 7.3L like expectancy?

Hi folks,

Have found a '99 F250 with the 7.3L and 178K miles (287,000Km) on it and am wondering how much life it may have left on it?
The owner says all maintenance has been done 'before schedule' and that it's had an easy life (small travel trailer towed occasionally).

Is there anything I should look for/worry about?

Thanks,

Mike - oil burner newbie.

Where is it? If in the rust belt, there could be a lot of things to address. If a SoCal, New Mexico, Arizona, or Texas truck, you could be about at half-life.

There's a thread here somewhere about buying a used 7.3, and what to look for. Someone who knows where it is will direct you better.

I understand that with the 7.3L powerstroke, 200,000 miles is just getting broken in. I think it's important to find out how well it's been serviced throughout it's life. Has it had regular oil changes?

At 178k miles I'd say you should be fine, assuming everything else checks out. I've got 247K on my early '99 and it still runs like a champ.
Like others said, don't over pay and keep that money for repairs and or upgrades.

almost 230k here and it is loving life.
uses about 1quart of oil every 4k between drips and consumption, and i let it.
I do preventative maint on it when i can, give it a treat when its been good to me, and unleash the fury when its feeling frisky. Its been a great truck for the money i have into it. I cant wait to upgrade the fuel system....the WHOLE system. It will love me long time for that upgrade
