Well, there is nothing you can do to improve the turning radius on a 4x4.......unless you're being limited by your tires hitting something. And, I've never owned a 2wd. So....I can't really comment.
However, I did have a problem with the lift kit on my 2005. The steering stops on the knuckles were cast wrong. After I put the lift on, I couldn't make a u-turn on a 6 lane highway!! I had to grind the stops down slightly.

Yeah, my 78 4x2 stinks as far as turning radius. I just learn to live with it.
Thats weird, every Ford truck I ever had would turn on a dime. They would turn circles around a Chevrolet, my Chevy owner friends (yes, you can choose your friends I know but some allowances must be made) would joke that the front end was going to turn out from under my 86 f150
with my s/c i have to back into a parking spot or i dont get in love that when i am doing that and some little smart car zips into your space behind you [flattened a few tires over the years for people being so ignorent] man air comes out fast when the valve stem is pulled out with a pair of plyers lol

The 70's F series don't turn like the 2000's by any stretch.
