hey guys. i have a situation with my oil cooler. its my first oil cooler job.
i pulled the old cooler out. i bought a used one with low miles on it.
i installed it. later i found a cylinder type check valve and spring in
the bottom of the pan i used to drain coolant. i didnt notice if the used
one i installed had one in it. can someone help me.
Hopefully it is out of the old cooler. Mine is loose again already too. It fell out a couple weeks ago and I put it back in, staked it real good and wet on. This time I'm taping the hole and plugging it. About fed up with that worthless thing.
yes i ran the motor. but im not sure if the oil cooler that i put in had one. i got in a rush
to finish before dark. do i need to take it loose and check. how does the thing go in there.
there is a spring and 2 other cylinder type barrel looking things.
thanx for your help
steve
i know it was full of oil. i didnt really look at the guage. truck started right up.
i cant run now. i took the filter housing out to replace my hoses and leaking
fuel pump
All I can tell you is that the cooler you put in should have one in it but the damm things fall out so easy ya never know. I would hang tight and see if one of the gurus says its ok to drive your truck without one before you have to drain the coolant and pull things apart to see if it is in there. sorry I couldn't be more help.
Was just thinking. if you know what year the truck was that the used cooler came out of you might have the cooler with the valve that is held in with a snap ring so it cant just fall out. So it should be in there.
i will call the guy monday. i buy alot of parts there. the parts are always good.
never got a bad one. i only know the oil cooler looked barely used. the one i took
off was gushing oil. i just got the truck 3 weeks ago. its a flatbed. i also have
f250 ps service truck with a small oil cooler leak. i wanna rebuild the one off the 350.
and install it on my 250. when i take the cooler off the 250 i will pay close attention
to the valve this time. im new to working on these engines. learning the hard way
i got my fuel pump installed today. cleaned filter housing, strainer, screen all new hoses
and found no more leaks. pump is a big pain to change. my oil pressure was very good.
the pointer is on the m of the pressure gauge. maybe im ok.
