I like the 3G better for a couple reasons,
#1 it's still a ford part haha
#2 they are very easy to wire up. Of the 4 required wires only 2 come off the alternator. ( charge cable and exciter wire)
#3 they can be had for dirt cheap at any JY.
#4 it's a stock part, so if your ever out on the road you can find a replacement easier.
#5 they put out more amps.

Not quite sure what you said...
What alternator is in your truck currently? What have you done to try and fix it?

ive repaced battery alternator and voltage regulator with stock replacement parts and still no charging. My printed circuit going to my amp gauge is burnt. Is there anyway i can bypass the gauge all together since it never worked

If the light doesn't work, put switched power to the "I" terminal of the external regulator.
I'm pretty sure trigger voltage goes through the light circuit then to I terminal.

Maybe someone will verify by tomorrow.

But you can look up the wire diagram diagram for a stand alone external regulator and probably verify.

You'd probably be better off to start a new thread for this.

2X.
And one thing you can answer on the new thread is if your truck came with an idiot light cluster and you installed a gauge style. They are wired differently.
