Using VIN to id vehicle options?

The best way to do this is to have a GOOD Ford dealer do that for you. GOOD and dealer service department rarely go hand in hand, but at the very least, if you have one you have some kind of relationship with, they would probably print one out for you. It doesn't cost them anything and it builds good relationship with you. Things like axle, tranny, carry capacities are usually in the doorjamb, if that sticker is still there.

I emailed Ford several years ago and they gave me a complete list of all of the factory installed options and the actual day of manufacture.
This will not be an actual build sheet-because they will not give you a factory codes for each option-it will be listed in regular English and will not be in the build sheet format.
Ford needs the VIN, of course, and your snailmail address-because Ford will only snailmail you the option information on your vehicle. I think that it took two weeks to get a response back from Ford on their official Ford letterhead letter.
I do not know if Ford still does this or not but maybe some of the VIN part may help you.
Here is what I did:
Email crcfmc@ford.com and provide the following pieces of information:
Name:
Address:
City:
State:
Zip Code:
Cellular Phone Number:
Daytime Phone Number:
Home Phone Number:
Odometer Reading:
Servicing Dealership:
VIN#:
Year of truck:
Model:
Here is what they sent me this, I edited out the name, address and unit number:
Another example:

It's been several years, July 2001, since I asked for and received that same report on my Ranchero, which was much simpler optioned. So they may still supply this since Bill also got it in 2007.
You can also try your VIN at THIS site. It won't bring up my EX-1998 F150 but will show a friends 2001 F150.
