You don't have AWD (all wheel drive) you have A4WD (automatic 4 wheel drive). When A4WD is selected the vehicle will automatically shift into 4WD if wheel slip conditions are met. It will then revert back to 2WD. It is a momentary activation of 4H. I keep both of mine in that mode all the time, others will tell you not to because mileage and part wear will be effected. I've got almost 170k on one of them and I haven't worn anything out yet. The only time I take it out and go to 2WD is to hang the back end out in the dirt.
You also don't have traction control, you have AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control. Traction control is not available with this feature. RSC is way more than traction control - it monitors yaw and roll to detect impending roll over and makes power and braking corrections to (hopefully) prevent it. It does handle the traction control duties as well so you aren't without that and it saves you having to service chattering LSD clutch packs every 30k miles.
Long story short, leave it in A4WD and the traction control on (it is on by default)
