Better off finding a good engine to drop in it and selling the truck whole. Or selling the truck whole without a new engine. Unless the body/frame is really bad.

I'd have to agree. If the rest of the truck is decent and you can buy and install a used engine (302?) for cheap, I'd go that route. But first, see what other running, similar trucks are selling for in your area. The effort may not be worth it to you.

If you do part it, don't worry about keeping any wear parts like brakes, shocks, etc. Otherwise, anything in good/decent condition can be resold. Heavy stuff won't bring as much as you'd like because of shipping costs. The trans (AOD, in your case) should be worth a couple hundred dollars to someone. Rear axle is probably an 8.8", and may be worth something depending on the installed gears (but they're a dime a dozen - very plentiful these days). The doors (steel part) are the same from 1980 through 1996, so you should be able to unload them. Keep plastic stuff (like the grille) if it's in good condition. Windshield, hell all glass. Door locks and ignition (steering column) switch and keys. Mirrors. Seats...

It's all worth parting out if you have the space and time to do it. But it can be a PITA with packing and shipping stuff. May not be worth it to you.

What are you going to get if you "junk it" - a couple hundred dollars? Is it worth it, to you, to spend the time removing all of these parts, listing them somewhere (Craig's List, ebay, here in Classifieds...), then finding boxes to pack them, take them to the UPS, USPS, FedEx... All of this is a huge pain in the @ss. For the difference of a couple hundred bucks, you should probably just junk it.

nope its a 2wd and rust bucket im not in the market these days to spend money ive been doing that all my life on old beaters ive owned over 200 vehicles since 94 ive been through all this i dont do that stuff any more. its just an 80s beater rusted truck it would be worth less than it would take tp replace the engine in. i do this stuff every day for ppl but they are nice vehicles. life has changed since the old days of doing that kind of stuff in old rusted beaters and the world has changed alot since then and everything is so different now.,

if it was a 4x4 or was a clean truck or at leats had a good windshield and sheetmetal then it would be different maybe but nope. its in IL where everything rots quickly and its an antique at 1985

super crazy old

so its done, we gave 50 bucks for it and its im turning it into a trailer and the rest if for parting out and scrapping

will make plenty of $$ off it

but i just needed ideas what may be desireable off these things

im thinking the trans, column, door parts, radiator, fuel injection setup and ECM,

i need more ideas

i had another 85 not too long ago and it was a 351 4bbl auto trans 250 and i gave 700 for it and lost money trying to get rid of it i finally traded it to a buddy who junks vehicles at the shredder and thats where it ended up, complete.

no one wants these trucks whole. its different than in past times., everything has changed since years ago when older trucks were everywhere and dime a dozen.

i parted all the rest in the past and i shoulda done the same with that one also.

but i was sick of stripping vehicles by then,, and still am.,, and still have to all the time regardless, even right now i have to,,

the f150

the f250

I'd buy the whole front end off of you if I were closer. I'm going to be restoring my '85 F-250 in the next couple years, once I get my garage set up to pull the engine.

That's good news. I always LOVED the 80-86 body style, and was wondering when they were going to be considered as restoration projects. Glad to see they are starting to get attention. I see quite a few 1970s models restored, and lots of '87-'96 models still on the road, but the '80-'86 models seem to be stuck in either a junk or old beater phase.

There's at least three restored ones here, and one that's a beater, but kept in good shape, always fresh primer on it, and some mechanical upgrade going on. My favorite is the beater that's got three colors of primer in several shades going on, but there's a beautiful white early '80's around, with a lot of chrome and just the right amount of lift, sitting on shiny black A/T's. I've got one I really want to restore and make into a show quality muscle truck, but don't have the funds.
