Voltage Stabilizer for Instrument panel 66 F100

On my 66 F100, my gas gauge and temp. gauge don't work. What should be the voltage coming out of the Voltage stabilizer?

Thanks
Jeff

I had the same problem. I think it's supposed to be five volts. What is your output?

My keeps going from 0 to 6 volts, never stable. I check my ground and that is ok. So I'm thinking it is bad. Could not find what the output should be in any of the manuals I have.

Thanks for the response

The contacts inside the ICVR open and close to give the 5 volt output. If you are using a digital meter, you won't get a steady reading. You can test you gauges by using 2 D-cell batteries stacked together and 2 pieces of wire. Hook the wires to the batteries and then touch the wires on the terminals for the gauge. It's enough voltage to determine if the gauge works. If the gauge moves the wrong direction, just reverse the wires. If the gauges test good, then the problem lies elsewhere (cvr or sending units).

I grounded the fuel gauge on the send side and it went up to full. I grounded the temp. gauge on the send side and it didn't move, just clicked. So maybe the fuel gauge is ok and the temp is not.
I'll try the batterys. Thanks for the help.

One of us will figure it out. I have the exact same problem with my 66 F-100.
If I figure it out , I'll post it.
Good luck!

Then probably the guages and the sending units are all okay and the voltage stabilizer is bad and needs to be replaced. The cheapest one I can find is around $30.

1957/86: There were TEN different ICVR's. The differences are in the connectors and how they attach to the back of the cluster.

Because of these differences, and clueless autoparts salesmen, take the old one with you to the parts store so you can match it up.

Obsolete
You have the sweep speedo with the round fuel and temp gauges, correct?

If so, I found 12 fuel gauges (C5TZ9280B) / 14 temp gauges (C5TZ10883E).

I had to replace my icvr. I found some plans on this web site to build my own from radio shack. It only cost me 5 bucks. It is just a 5v regulator, capacitor, and a heat sink. here is the thread.

Are they all bad

I have three gauge clusters. I checked all of them with my meter. I ran 12v to the ignition side and test lead to the gauge terminal. They all read 12v.Are they all bad ?

Ok... the float in the tank was full of fuel, and I have no temp sending unit!
that explains my troubles. No in-dash problems .....yet.

Anyone know where to find a float?

Shaggie,

Both LMC Truck and National Parts Depot carry floats.

Ford66, I had the same issue recently with my truck. A new VR did the trick for me. I got mine from LMC Truck, and once hooked up, both worked fine. When I tested my temp gauge I couldn't get it to move by any means, but it works fine now. LMC was pretty good about making sure I had the right part as well. So far, my truck is still 100% origional set up.
