any adjustment in the shifter linkage??

I just started having issues on my 2000 V10 Excursion, going into reverse. If I'm in D, I have to go to P then to R. otherwise straight to R will not be recognized. Is there any adjustment to this linnkage? either under the dash or under the hood or at the tranny? any help is greatly appreciated.

Michael

If you crawl under the column you should see a white adjusting wheel to take any slack outta the cable, and adjust the lever back to normal. I would also check the link connection on the tranny, just to be sure there is nothing wrong with it.

Your shifter tube may be worn out. There are 2 plastic bushings that ride on the aluminum tube and they do wear out.
I would first check the 2 torx screws on the bottom plate (cable bracket) of your column to see if they are tight. My screws were loose and I had the same symptoms. I believe it was a torx 27. You can locktite them but if you do just use a small speck of blue as you might have to remove it in the future.

I had one of those screws fall out and then truck would not go into park. so definitely worth a check its under the dash where the shaft from the shift lever runs down the steering column and connects to a vertical aluminum plate that has the shift cable

Mines doing the same thing ,it got so bad I could hardly change gears, tried all the quick fixes and it didnt hep, so I took it to the dealer, expecting the worse $$ . they said it was a streched cable going to transmission, they replaced for only $120 and now it shifts like new, not a bad price from the dealer -John
