Shock Purchase Recommendation

It looks like I will be getting new shocks now.
161k on my current factory ones on a 2wd 99.5 reg cab, 6 spd, psd.

I am looking for some stiff stiff ones - and it seems like the bilsteins are the ones to choose.

However, I have also read that some of them are installed upside down with the boot on the bottom?

I want the one with the boot at the top.

Also, where is a good place to get it? I heard from somewhere I can get it for free shipping and -5% cost?

You're really going to hate yourself very soon. You could go to the local parts store and buy monroe shocks and get a 200% better ride right now.

Shockwarehouse.com is the one that has the 5% discount. Sale prices and shipping vary from time to time. I've used some Bilseins. Right now I'm running some Gabriel shocks that have the same type boots as the Bilstein. The Bilstein is a little stiffer ride than many other shocks, but as I mentioned before, ANYTHING will give you a 200% better ride right now. I waited 100,000 miles before I replaced my factory shocks and I couldn't believe the difference. Felt like a brand new truck.

Thanks for your reply, Chris.

Going to deposit some money on the bank account and get those ordered!

You are totally right about the ride - The reason why I finally realize new shocks is because I had a chance to drive my dad's work truck... (a 99 V10 with ias shocks that has around 10k miles on it)... Boy, did the ride feel good! It feels *alot* more solid and stable!

Next up on the list.... New rotor and pads (they were last changed by the last owner at 50k) - I guess 110k on them weren't bad and they have some more life left in it - if not for the rotors being wrapped!

Any recommendation on pads and rotors?

Thanks!

I went ahead and dumped the money on hawk pads and cryo'd rotors based on the recommendations of others here. I've only had them on for about 20k miles, but so far I'm impressed. Shorter stopping distances. They don't feel like they grab more when you first touch the pedal, but when you keep your foot on the pedal, the truck slows down noticeably faster. Just follow the break in procedure that comes with the pads and you'll be good.
