My Biggest Complaint

I bought my 2012 F350 SD 4x4 CC Lariat Powerstroke just before Thanksgiving and have put just over 6000 miles on it in the month and few days I have owned it. I have made two trips from East Central Illinois to Savannah, GA and one trip to Nebraska. I love the way it drives and rides. I just got back today from Savannah pulling an 18 foot Haulmark trailer. I averaged 10.5 mpg. There is only one thing I have found that I do not like about the truck, and it really bugs me. The high beams on it SUCK!!!!

Does anyone else feel the same? What have you done to improve the high beam output. They just do not seem to be very bright. My wife drives a 2009 Toyota Camry and the brights on it make the brights on this truck look like brithday candles. I hate them.

My 09's I think are plenty bright on high, my problem is the sharp cut off. Driving in the hills and stuff even the highbeams when tipped down slightly might only shine for 30 yards and you can't see whats 2 seconds ahead of you! I can drive way faster than what the headlights will properly illuminate. But compared to every other vehicle I own, the 350's headlights are brighter. The cars seem brighter but its because they are closer to the ground and create more light closer up were you dont want it. When Shined against the garage door side by side the lights on the 350 are brighter than our lexus.

I'd suggest trying the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra bulbs. I think they make a decent difference and at $50, its a cheap upgrade. Order them online from Advance Auto with a coupon code and save a few more dollars. There are companies that make HID bulb upgrades, but they are a little pricier and I think there is a legality issue in some states.

I put the 9006 SilverStars (low-beams) on my 2003 Silverado and it made a world of difference.
Per this post I looked into the H13/9008 upgrade for my F250 on Amazon and the page says they will not fit?? This is the page..
Sylvania H13/9008 SU SilverStar Ultra Halogen Headlight Bulb (Low/High Beam), (Pack of 2) : Amazon.com : Automotive Sylvania H13/9008 SU SilverStar Ultra Halogen Headlight Bulb (Low/High Beam), (Pack of 2) : Amazon.com : Automotive
The Owners Manual says that H13/9008 is the correct bulb size; anyone have any ideas as to the discrepancy?

Advance said the same thing. The only thing I could think of is if you have the sealed beam headlamps like on the base model, they will not fit. Other than that, it is a standard bulb. I can't see the problem.

Pick up a set of Hella 500 or Hella 500FF driving lights. They're only about $75.00 from Walmart and they make a word of difference. i hooked them up to one of my up fitter switches.

Thanks for all of the replies and suggestions. I had thoughts about checking on replacement bulbs, but had not thought about driving lights. That is something to give serious consideration to. Knightridder, I understand where you are coming from. I buy a new truck every 8 to 10 years and drive it daily. While it is hard to justify the cost of any new truck today, spreading that cost over 8 to 10 years makes it a little easier.

I feel the same way, as a result I put 6000K HID's on mine.
