The input shaft of Ford truck transmissions of 1964 and before is 7 1/8" long. The input bearing retainer is 4.675" in diameter. Most Ford cars used a 6.5" input shaft length. Somewhere in the 60s, Ford began to use a 4.85" input bearing retainer.
The only cars I can think of that used the long input shaft were some of the SROD and T5 transmission Mustang 5.0s.
So for a direct swap without some special work, you are looking at engines that came in Ford trucks, 1964 and before, as you choices. Be looking for engines for which the bellhousing has rear motor mounts. However, note that there are bellhousings for other transmissions, like the T98 4 speed, which won't work -- they have a different trans bolt pattern and the input bearing register hole is too large.
The only thing that will truly "bolt up" is another Y. A 223 or 262 I6 can work but the front motor mounting bracket on the frame will have to be removed - not that big a deal.
