I'll bet that 'Dummy can tell us a LOT more about that place!
I'll add to the thread.....
This says "San Fernando Raceway" behind the Olds:
George Nordskog built a lot of marine specialty engines out here in the Valley, and was known for making boats go fast, too! He eventually built galleys for airliners.
Shelley's is but one of a bunch of small parts houses that used to dot the SFV, back before the national chain stores bought them all out. Yes, we used to fix our own, and we got to personally know the good "counter men". It's all back when the first move wasn't to put the year into the computer.
A parts man had to know (in his head) the manufacturer of the desired part before anything else. That's the catalog he opened. He had to know, in a spread of at least three feet wide of catalogs, where was the one he needed. After a while, you didn't need to look up most of the common parts for Chevys. A Delco starter solenoid comes to mind.....
A good parts house had at least two complete sets of those catalogs on the counter, and if we were lucky, two men who were good with them.
Learning how to read those books was one of the most life-influencing experiences of my upbringing. I only did it for a couple of years, but those research skills have served me well over the decades.
