Location is probably easy to identify. What else is significant about this photo?

Jim,
Thanks, however, looking for something else, maybe less obvious. Then again, maybe more obvious.

Yes it is, now serving its life out along the Pamama Canal.
My neighbor who worked on the docks for years, witnessed the loading of this beast onto a ship for transport to Panama. Pretty scary to watch this load in the air.
Quite a story if wiki is close at hand.

E. W. Ralston, Nash, Los Angeles CA, 1955.
The address of this building was 9825 Venice Blvd.
It appears that this building is long gone.

I'll bet that 'Dummy can tell us a LOT more about that place!

I'll add to the thread.....

This says "San Fernando Raceway" behind the Olds:

George Nordskog built a lot of marine specialty engines out here in the Valley, and was known for making boats go fast, too! He eventually built galleys for airliners.

Shelley's is but one of a bunch of small parts houses that used to dot the SFV, back before the national chain stores bought them all out. Yes, we used to fix our own, and we got to personally know the good "counter men". It's all back when the first move wasn't to put the year into the computer.

A parts man had to know (in his head) the manufacturer of the desired part before anything else. That's the catalog he opened. He had to know, in a spread of at least three feet wide of catalogs, where was the one he needed. After a while, you didn't need to look up most of the common parts for Chevys. A Delco starter solenoid comes to mind.....

A good parts house had at least two complete sets of those catalogs on the counter, and if we were lucky, two men who were good with them.

Learning how to read those books was one of the most life-influencing experiences of my upbringing. I only did it for a couple of years, but those research skills have served me well over the decades.

Proof-positive that Los Angeles had occasional days with breathable air, back in the 50's.

Occasionally.

When was the pic taken? I see a 1953 red/white Buick & yellow/white 1953 Pontiac. A circa 1954 MG TF is in the background.

In front of the Pontiac and one lane over, that's a Triumph Mayflower. When was the last time anyone spotted one?

Not sure Bill, I just googled Hollywood freeway-1950s and posted a pic.

I wonder who the poor guy was who mowed the grassy median 2 months of the year?
