Russ,

Something's GOT to be wrong there!

There's WAY too much duplication in those two shots for it to be real.

Remember, don't believe everything you see on the World-Wide Web!

Perhaps this will help: Where Was Ontario Motor Speedway? | Inside The Inland Empire

My Dad and I attended the inaugural race in 1970 and I still have the official program.

Saw the 500 at OMS in '71 when Joe Leonard won it. Still haven't been to a sanctioned race at the new venue.

Yup. I now see what you did there. What I DIDN'T see was the "overlay".

Whew!

And then there was Riverside International Raceway. What a classic road course. I took pictures of the Winston Cup race in 1984, standing on the pit wall during that race.

Petty had a rear end blow up and have pictures of him standing beside his car on pit row. No pit crew uniforms, the old pump handles to fill fuel, and guys smoking in the pits.

Terry Labonte won that race and eventually won the championship that year.

We had the good fortune to have a friend that knew Ralph Seagraves, VP of RJ Reynolds. We sat in the Winston Suite and visited with Petty, Allison, Labonte among others.

Those were the days.

1959 Caterpillar ad Crop from Petaluma, CA.
(I spy with my little eye a '55 Ford in front, a Nash Airflyte from the early '50s a couple cars back, nicked named the upside down "Bathtub Nash".

Been awhile since there was any activity in this thread....

More of a read than actual pics, but I ran across this article in the LA times on the train ride to work the other morning, thought some of you SoCal lifers might enjoy.
It has a link to some pics also.

I threw The Valley Times around 1957-59 in Van Nuys and Sepulveda. Stuffed two routes into my bags. From the sidewalk, I could throw them right up onto the porch with a high degree of accuracy.

I suspect that I was in the best shape of my life at twelve years old.

Never did have a paper route, but even if I did, it would not have been in 57-59, as I did not even make my entrance until 58.
