That photo REALLY hits home (literally) with me. I grew up less than a mile west-southwest from where that photo was snapped.

The large building at the end of the street was a Broadway Department Store (you can faintly make out the B-R-O-A painted on it), and today is a two-story (maybe three) Walmart. My checking account, the same since 1965, is at the bank 300 feet the other side of that Thrifty Drug. I remember going to a circus Under The Big Top in the vacant lot that was once the entire west (Woolworths/Broadway) side of the street.

This was taken while standing on the corner of Chase Street.

As an aside, until 1938, Red Cars ran down the middle of the street there on their way to San Fernando from Downtown.

Things have certainly changed in the old neighborhood since I lived there.

North side and on the backside street.
Right close to where the old North Pole used to be.
The year,,,,,,,,I'm thinking '74ish.

Hell Yeah. I'd hate to think of how many times I was there when I was a kid.

I was actually sad when they closed it.

Today it would be SUVs.

Dad had a 1961 Dodge Dart wagon, which would have been right at home in that lot. The third seat faced aft, and was only accessed through the tailgate.

The '61-'62 Darts were full-sized, family vehicles. The Darts then got smaller in '63 to replace the compact Dodge Lancer, which was the Valiant equivalent those years.

Hey Marv, I loved those Lancers! And the first Valiants too. Didn't they have the first slant six?
