Not your fault the photos are mis-dated or "generalized." Many of these photo's were originally taken by The Title Insurance Co. The SoCal Auto Club has even more mis-dated photos.

On the last page of Westways, is a pic of old CA. Someone (not saying' who) has written in every time the photo is mis-dated, usually sayin' that the particular vehicle(s) must be a pre-production model(s).

The most glaring example was of a small town train station, photo was dated to the 1930's. Parked alongside was a 1955 Plymouth.

One would assume that the '"brain trusts" at the Auto Club would know one year vehicle from another, but they usually don't.

Do y'all remember when the LA Times had a quiz in their expanded Auto Section every Wednesday? A drinking mug w/the LA Times logo was awarded to the first person with the correct answers.

Someone (not sayin' who) won 7 drinking mugs. It wasn't too long before this section was cut down considerably, cancelling the quiz. Then, a coupla months later, the section was cancelled altogether.

What a great thread, I enjoyed the old pictures. I have a few to contribute but I looked through the FAQ and do not see the option for "manage attatchments" like it mentioned there so I put them in my garage album I think

Edit : If anyone could move them into the post here that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Dang - someone beat me to calling out that 3rd pic (the one of the pavillion). I know it well as I can see the top of that building from my window right now - and it has for sure changed. Can't recall when though.

The cupola on the Pavilion was rebuilt in the early 1960's, and the it was destroyed by the storm that hit in 1982 I believe it was, `that also destroyed the Huntington beach Pier, Seal Beach Pier, Aliso Creek (Salt creek) Pier, and if I recall correctly part of the Redondo Beach pier. I recall surfing on the north side of Seal Beach Pier as it collapsed, and having the life Guards yelling at us on their PA System from on the pier. We laughed at them because the Pier they were on was collapsing, and we were out having a blast in 10-25 ft waves....... hey I was just a kid then!

The US 101 through Cahuenga Pass ending just past Barham Blvd and continuing north on Cahuenga Blvd. Lots of trees to be seen at the time!

Can't see much of anything there now other than buildings. I wonder what that massive billboard has on it? Probably a "land for sale" pitch, you think?

Some nice stuff from KCET's site in this link: The Lost Hills of Downtown Los Angeles

That's neat. Seems like I sorta remember that from the past.

The thing about the pumpkin is that Union 76 logo used to be a big orange ball, so it was a natural to dress them up as jack-o-lanterns. Some years they would give away orange ***** to the kids to collect Halloween candy. Every station used to have a big rotating orange ball sign, including the outfield at Dodger Stadium. Now they are merged with Conoco Phillips and their color is Red. They still have a circle 76 logo, but no more *****.

Originally there were two of Union 76's red ***** at Dodger Stadium, above the right and left field Pavilions. Union Oil was a major sponsor, provided funds for Walter "cheapskate" O'Malley when he built Dodger Stadium.

They were Orange, not Red.

It seems I am not the only one who noticed the missing *****.
Save the 76 Ball | it's not too late!

Yep, I recall the orange 76 rotating ***** having a cloth jack-o-lantern cover in the 70's and 80's.
