1989 F-250, XLT, lariat supercab, 4X4, C-6 Auto, Flatbed, 140K on the clock.

Originally a east TX truck. I think I'm the fourth owner. No rust. Paid $2000 back in 2007. I bought it from a chevorlet dealership in Cherokee, OK.

1991 Ford

Hey guys first post here!

I have a 1991 Ford F250 XLT Lariat Supercab

Bought in I think 2009 with 72,000 miles on it

Has 3.55 gears and an E4OD

paid $3100

It has 104,000 on it now

Bought it from a guy in Derby, Kansas ( he later contacted me and told me his wife took the money and divorced him, and he really wished he had the truck back) it has a little rust underneath the supercab at the bottom and I need to get the a/c going. It has run lick a sewing machine ever since I got it.

I did have to put a tranny in it, hauled it to Jett Performance transmission in Colwich Kansas and he put me in a really nice tranny and torq converter

Its not IDI but I also bought, this fall, a 2000 Ford F250 Supercrew XLT Lariat 4X4 with air bag rear suspension, stainless steel exhaust, 40 gal aluminum fuel tank in the bed, leather interior with 6 cd changer, Automatic with 3.73 gears, it had 106,000 on it, paid 11,000
its got 110,000 on it now.

Another first poster here!

Year: 1989
Model: F-250 7.3 IDI with old Banks Turbo
Trim: XLT Lariat
Driveline: 2WD C6 auto
Mileage when purchased and date: approx "20,000" (100x or 200x? Maybe more?) but 35k on engine rebuild / August 2014
price paid: $1300

I needed to make a cross country trip & haul a bunch of heavy things with the largest/most reliable/economical yet excruciatingly cheap pick-up I could find as soon as possible. So when I found this truck I thought I hit the jackpot. It spent most of its life in Bakersfield- rust free!

The bad news- it had spent some time sitting.. 10 years! But it was started occasionally during that time. When I bought it, It had an electrical starting problem which was fixed easily enough ($100 fix if i recall). But then it fried its alternator & needed a new one- along with new batteries. ugh! not cheap stuff. As the miles keep adding on I have spent FAR too much on this truck now (in the area of $3000!) It has since received: New tires, New fuel switch, new batteries, new front brake pads, new fuel filter, new oil filter, new ignition switch, new alternator, new transmission lines & fluid, and a new heater core. I still needs a new/rebuild oil cooler, along with countless other small/minor issues.

The good news- It's now carried me approx 4K+ miles relatively reliably (the odometer stopped working about 1k miles ago though). The turbo works great- which is fun. Even took the Eisenhower tunnel grade with 3000+ lbs in the bed like a champ. She almost left me completely stranded twice (but miraculously started at the last possible minute). But other than that she has started reliably. I've even started it in 20 degrees (unplugged block heater) within 3-5 tries no problem. Oh, and an added bonus was the 40(?) gallon auxiliary fuel tank in the bed and a bed cap.

This is my first diesel truck and what an adventure it has been. To say this truck has quirks is an understatement. Definitely a love/hate kind of relationship but hey- it keeps on rolling. It looks almost exactly like the one 'ford white on black' posted except with a bedcap.

I just got my 90 250 and already have both tanks down found the strainer gone on both. Found a bad glow plug controller. Both thanks to the info I got here. Alot of the stuff you mentioned is routine stuff that you would have to do on any older truck. Let's see new truck 40 k , exhast fluid , EGR, particulate filter. Old Truck (your's) 3 investment products for none of the junk that is on the new one. You said you feel good about driving long distance with it. Sounds like you are still a winner. Just remember we very seldom get the money back on our toys.

Yeah, new filters & other things it has needed are just the way maintenance goes. Definitely beats upkeep on a new truck. And I did successfully drive it from California to New Hampshire- so it's a winner in my book.

I am working on my fuel system this month, maybe the glow plug controller if extra $$$ are there. Next month will be fluids and filters. We have family in TX and we are in Ga. We going to get about a 30ft travel trailer (already done the motorhome thing to many $$$$$). Pick up a used cap so the pets will have theit own space. When we go visit and we get fed up with family we have our own place to go to.

Dredging up a slightly old post but can I get some ballpark estimates on a 85 6.9 2wd crew auto with a flatbed and 5th wheel hitch? Haven't looked at it yet but the owner claims there is no rust on the floorboards.

My first idi I paid 2200$ it had 232,000 kms on it and it was an 1994 f250 turbo extended cab long box my second one I paid 800$ and it was 1991 f250 extended cab long box N/A 5 speed. I think for a nice crewcab 85 6.9 I would probably pay 3000$ maybe a little more if it was turbo'ed. It depends on kms really. Inspect it really good. And! if the speedo dosnt work take 500$ off, I learned the hard way bought the truck speedo didnt work thought it was speed sensor and they duct taped the wires together because the tone ring was blown right off and the carrier bearings were spun in the housing and carrier was walking they obviously knew because they said instrument cluster nfg when it was fine. So when I fixed the wiring it made the e4od drive like **** because it was getting 1/4 of the speed input it should. And check the usual spots for rust they could of did a half way clean up to cover it up.

My 1997 F350 i orginally paid about $23k on 15 years ago. Once I wore out the 460 i coverted it to the 7.3 idi. The donor truck cost me $500. Various parts, machine shop time and such when i did the conversion put me total under $3k for a "new truck with a rebuilt 7.3"

My 1990 F250 cost me $100. It had 300k miles. It now has over 507k on it no rebuild yet. They said it wouldn't start when i got it. New glow plug controller and glow plugs and I've been driving it ever sinc .

Dam I'm getting jealous of that six door!

Sounds like I should search for a non starting truck and hope that it's one of the common problems before I just buy a running one, I mean where is the fun in that right?

And the crew I was looking at is 2wd... Not the biggest issue in the world for me but it would be nice to have 4wd just in case
