Super Duty 6.2 HP/Torque numbers in!
#16
Those are peak numbers and don't tell the whole story. Need to see the curves before you get mad. If the torque numbers are higher than others at lower rpm, then it will be a very good and useable engine.
My 6.2 GM has higher numbers and I use it once and a blue-moon while towing, but 97% of the time I wish GM would have tuned it to have better lower-rpm response. My 6.2GM does not live at 4500rpm, but it does live at 2000rpm, and it's pretty dead around there. My bet is Ford did just that, and we'll wait and see when the curves are out.

The 6.2l has higher hp and torque at all rpms than the 5.4l 3V but not the 6.8l 3V. Read the "Ask the Engineer" thread in the SD section. If I remember correctly the 6.2l makes 80% of its torque around 1500-2k rpm. If your buying a 6.2l SD don't get the 3.73 gears. Wish Ford would have got rid of 3.73s in the SD for the gassers, they suck.

P.S. your 6.2 is slow at low RPMs due to emissions. Buy HP tuners and you'll knock off at least .5 sec from your 1/4 mile time. GM left a lot of the table of the 6.2 in my book

I'm not dissapointed in the numbers what so ever. If I was in a need of a super duty right now I would be thrilled with the 6.2L. But when I do need a truck in the next 5 years or more. Probably by then the 6.2L will make over 400hp and 450tq. I would love to buy a King ranch f-350 CC 4X4 with 4.30's with the 6.2L.

It would, however, be a good way to increase the low-end-torque - go two smaller intake valves/runners, and shut one off during low RPMs.

GM vehicles sell well enough that they still outsell Ford, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Volkswagen, Jeep, Subaru and every other automaker in the US month after month

Carry on with the 6.2 discussion
