Gentlemen,
I have a 1962 Econoline 5 window pick up with a 170 and a 3 on the tree. I just purchased a complete drivetrain from a 1966 mustang, it has a 200 engine, c4 automatic.I want to put the entire mustang drivetrain into my truck. What do I need to do this and is the rear from the mustang compatible with the original from my truck. Any help from all you gurus will be greatly appreciated.

The 170 and 200 6 cylinders should be completely interchangable as they are the same physical size. AFAIK, the auto trans was an option in the Econoline, so I would think there's room for the C4 in place of the original 3 speed. You might have to work on custom mounts, though.

For the rear end, I don't see what you'd gain by swapping that, unless your Econoline rear is junk and the Mustang isn't. They both use the same light duty 7 1/4" differential. You can measure the overall width and spring perch locations to see how they compare.

The 200 is being installed this week for now, I'm waiting on installing the trans and as for the rear my gears are 3.50, the mustangs is 2.83 I wanted better cruising speed at lower rpms, but the mustang rear is 50 1/2 inches and the econoline rear is 56 inches wide from inside drum to inside drum.

I don't recall exactly, but I believe you can just swap out the pumkins in the two rear ends.. I think they are the same, but of course you'll have to check that.

The biggest difference besides the obvious in the 170 and 200 are the hydraulic lifters in the 200.

How goes the swap? I have a '65 E100 Deluxe p'up with 170/3sp/3.50 and a '66 Falcon van with 240/3sp/8 in.
