Was happy with the way things were going on the Ford so started looking at the Ford hybrid and things went bad quickly.

Finally got back home from all my travels in the past two months yesterday. Today I started removing parts from my parts truck. Getting ready to remove the 460 hopefully next weekend.

Started grinding off the rivets of the old rusted spring hangers. Finished 3 of 4 on the first one, and my grinder died. Guess I get to buy a new and better one...the old one was a really small 15 year old China special, so I'm not too broken up about it.

Forgot I had a fj40 till a friend called a couple days ago and said I have to get it off the property by noon, it was 6am. The dog, engine hoist, buzz box, and myself had to get a frame on axles to roll across a creek and onto the trailer so it could be hauled home. Worst morning in a long time!
Not a big fj fan and its my first one. Could not figure out why the main rust was in the rear sill till I pulled the horrible sub-structure thing that wants to rust out. (first picture, junk on garbage can about to go in garbage can). Seem to like fj's more and more as ford parts go onto it and the stock fj40 stuff is sold or used for target practice.
Anyway, just trying to get some projects rolling so I can roll them out of the garage. Want to work on a crewcab this winter.

Started the silver truck and took it for a short drive to clean out the carbwebs.
Started the Bronco and took it for a fast lap on the back 40....more carbweb blow out.
Blue truck started it and let it idle until the T stat opened.

I hate that they set, more than they are driven, at this time in my life.

Alternator died on me last week while towing the camper so I finally upgraded to the 3G. Should’ve done it years ago.

In the last couple of days we ran the gas tank empty in prep for dropping the tank. Fuel gauge was reading 1/4 so we ordered a new sending unit. We cleaned, patched and painted the tank. We put a coat of bed liner on the tank.

Also cleaned a painted the support straps and spare tire carrier assembly.

Plans are to replace filler/vent hoses and the line from the sending unit to hard line on frame.

While the bed liner cures we will prep the area where the tank fits. (clean/paint)

Some tips for anyone interested.

Filler hose is 2 1/4 inch inner diameter. I was hoping to save some $$ by getting some stock hose at the parts store, but they didn't have any that diameter. So I spent about 45.00 on what they had on the shelf. Rock auto has 2 1/4 for about 12.00/ft. You will need to cut a 2 ft section to fit.

I had a partial can of brushable bed liner and mixed in some from a new can (same brand) and it ended up turning into a roofing tar type mess. I guess they weren't exactly identical. So be careful. I should have just used up the old can first.

So all in all I wasted about 8.00 worth of bed liner and over spent about 22.00 on hose.

But by the middle of the week we should be good to go.with like new tank, new sending unit and all new hoses all the way up to the carb.
