I recently purchased a new distributor with the coil built in from kjb. I am having an issue with getting the timing marks to line up. When the engine is running I cant turn the distributor enough to get the marks any where near the pointer. The marks are on the opposite side of the harmonic balancer. When I put the light on the number 4 cylinder the marks line up like they are supposed to on the pointer. I am assuming I installed the distributor wroing somehow but the truck runs fine I would just like to fine toon the timing. Any help would be appriciated.

 

Bring the number 1 cylinder up to Top Dead Center (0 mark on balancer) and position distributer rotor so it's pointing to #1 on the cap (aproximately in the one o'clock position). It may take several tries before it drops into the correct position.

 

when you have the zero pointing at the timing mark pull the number one spark plug and verify that the piston is at the top of the stroke your your balancer could have slipped
