Simple, cheap, automatic floor shifter (really applies to almost any fullsize truck)

I had done this swap on my 67 ford years ago. I found a few 80's aerostar floor shifters today in the junkyards and decided to show what they look like to help anyone in need of a shifter that fits and finishes well in the old ford trucks.

I had put a tilt column in my 67 from a 78 or 79 standard truck. My column had no shift lever and I thought the aftermarket shifters were to short for a truck. The aerostar shifter is floor mounted with a tall handle that just looks right with the seat. It is a cable operated shifter and I was able to cleanly install it in my 67 without welding or building any box to raise the shift handle height. the only mod I had to make was to the cable end to mount the cable to my transmission. That would be something I leave up to you and your own ingenuity. Now that I am older I would do the cable end differently than when I was 19.

Anyway here is the shifter. Maybe it will help some one in need of a floor shift.

hmm thats interesting. but what about the extra slot it has for the overdrive. wouldnt that create too much travel for use on a c6 that doesnt have that many selections?

It never interfered with my c-6. If you set the shift in park and tighten the nut at the transmission in park you only pull down to 2. Low 1 would actually be 2 on the selector. That would be the furthest travel the 3 speed can go. I drove it that way for 2 years until the truck was totaled. I used the overdrive position as drive. If it was really bothersome you could have a new decal made without showing overdrive.
