2000 Ranger Trans
1. Will a 1998 trans out of a 4.0 work in my 3.0 2000 4x4?
2. My current trans was re-built (guy who did the work has skipped out) but when I installed the re-built unit I did not have full range of shift (will not shift into the "1" position even with the shift linkage removed and wiill not start in any poition. I had the started checked and it is good.
Any ideas?
Maybe consider having a Dealer, or tranny shop scan the tranny computer for trouble codes, as they can offer up some good clues.
Not sure about the bell housing hole pattern compatability between the 98 4.0L tranny & the 2000 3.0L engine, but I don't think they're the same, maybe someone who knows for sure will chime in.
Also, Is the 98 4.0L tranny a 5R55E & the 2000 3.0L a 4R55E?????
The bolt pattern is the same but I don't know if the electrical hook-ups are compatable.
Also, how about the computer shift controls?
The 98 is a 5R and the 2000 is 4R.
I'm not sure about the electrical connections either, but the computer programming is likely to be different as there is another gear & the gear & rear end ratios are likely different, so all that would be in the computer program & all that will affect shift points.
So even if the tranny would bolt up, a good number of other things would need tending to.
I just don't have the detail info you need, so maybe a tranny expert will chime in, or maybe post the question on the tranny forum, bet some tranny guru there knows, or has a better answer!!!!
