Your True Trac experience

I have a 2008 F350 that I just installed a True Trac into yesturday. It works great!! However at around 35mph I hear a hissing sound, like rubbing sandpaper together, it doesn't get loud just constant. Has anyone else had any noises come from their true Trac? Is this a normal sound? I have had 2 responses on other forums one said yes, one said no..lol. I am just looking for more input. Thanks.

I have had mine in for about 34K miles. Not a problem. I run Royal Purple 75w-140 synthetic oil too. Maybe you have a brake pad dragging?

It is working great, just making a weird sound. Only has about 100 miles on it. I don't think it is the brakes hanging up. Although that is what it sounds like. Same sort of sound. I hope it is not something that was put in wrong.

When cornering with the true trac, is the 'differential' action seamless and not noticeable, or can it be slightly detected as it works?

I have not noticed any sounds when turning. Other than the scraping sound that I am getting all of the time. The traction is like night and day, I am very impressed with it. I am just hoping that the sound is not the bearings grinding. It has new bearings and is in factory specs. I am gonna run it and see if it goes away, or burns up. May have to pull it out and check it again.

It should be seamless because uses gears as the traction mechanism, not an actual locking device. I'm guessing it should be quiet as a mouse when running.

Hows your fluid level?

I checked the fluid, it is full. It has about 500 miles on it now. Still has a slight scrapping sound from the rear end. The housing is warm to the touch. The shop that installed it wants to see it again and maybe reshim it. If it is in spec, what else could be causing this sound? It is not loud, but def. sounds like constant metal rubbing together.

Agreed on the set up. Who installed it? The new carrier needs new shims to get the bearing preload and backlash correct.

Maybe its something as simple as the front brake dust shield contacting the rotor. I would look at that before you bring it in. I know sometimes when I do front end/diff work my big a$$ arms and hands do some strange things to the flimsy metal on those dust sheilds.

Just my .02
