1978 f150 ranger 4x4 highboy lnb

hey, i just recently aquired a 1978 ford f150 ranger highboy 4x4 long narrow box in a trade, it was an old service truck and has a 460 and a c6, i was just wondering how rare a highboy with a long narrow box was in this year, this is the first one i have ever seen, is it special or have i just not seen enough trucks.

I'll say it's rare! As in, it does not exist.

Draken, none of us want to burst your bubble, but there's really no such thing as a "highboy/hi-boy" for late '77-'79, or for F150's.

The first half of the '77 F250 4x4 trucks came from the factory as hi-boys. They are fairly easy to identify because the '77 hi-boy will have the gas tank filler neck on the driver side of the cab, rather than in the bed.

What you have is a nice F150 4x4, enjoy the new ride! It looks really good.

OMG!!! That is so rare!! I have never seen a Highboy F-150 with a long stepside box!! Really......I mean it.....NEVER seen one before.....

is it special or have i just not seen enough trucks.

I would like to make a motion that we ban the word "Highboy" from this forum. I don't think there is another single word that has ever caused as much confusion.....

wow, this is how your treat people who are asking for information, by calling them newbies, making fun of them and just generally treating them like they don't know anything and your better than them just because they haven't seen a 78 with a long narrow box.

ok then scroll up on the picture and tell me what it is then, it sits higher than a regular 78 4x4 and its a long step, or are you questioning the pictures validity?

I was on your side until you started whining like a little girl. Take your lumps like a man.

Stick around, there's a lot to be learned from the people on this site. As you may have guessed, the term highboy/hi-boy have created s***storms in countless threads. What you have is a cool truck with a ton of potential. When you have a technical question, these guys/gals will be here to help and not make you feel bad. 99.9% of the time, that is

What are you planning on doing to the truck now that you have it?
