Back about '92 I got this '38 tonner from a friend. I built him a display cabinet for his indian artifacts for a straight trade. According to him, all I needed to do is twist the two wires together that are hanging below the dash, pull the choke and hit the button. I drove it home (about 20 miles)exactly as in the photo. Actually I drove it to a friend's home because we had 3 young kids and no money. Then I s'pose I lied a few nights about having to work late, so I could attend some urgent issues on it. I finally broke the news and brought it home. I sold my '79 3/4 ton and this became my daily driver for 10 years. That way I got to spend the money from selling the '79 without getting any #&*!. These barrel nose (Ive also heard them called 'horse collar') trucks are just as much orphans in the parts catalogues as my beloved '59 fridge truck. Sales of these trucks were really low, compared to the models before and after them.

GB Sisson that truck is beautiful and a great story to go with it!

Havi, I found a guy here locally that has a 38 and a 39 or 2 but I think it would probably take all three (and then some) to make one truck. not 100% sure though as I only saw the 38 that was mostly together still. the 39 I didn't see since it was all supposedly disassembled, then the third 39 is a yard truck and in pretty sad shape.
he wanted 1200 for the 38 with no engine/trans and not that great of shape. I'll be talking with him again soon, I'll see about getting some pictures and seeing if he would do a package deal on all three to get them out of his shop.
hmmm you need one? I sure don't

I'm holding out for one last panel truck.... either one of these, or an old C or D-series IH.

I do too! I'd like to recreate a US Air Mail Service truck.... to match my old stamp collection.

If I wasn't in the middle of selling/buying houses, I might have ended up with that sitting next to my '46

...Yes, It is a 40. No grill shell trim with it. I sold it out to Western Canada. The fellow that owns it now has not restored yet. He is a car/truck enthusiast and knows what he bought....

I've been looking for a '38 pickup for over 40 years. The closest I've gotten to one is a couple of weeks ago when I phoned within an hour of it getting posted. The vendor told me that it went less than a minute after he launched it. Broke my heart--again...
