running fine, then sputters and dies

2000 F150 4.6L Heading to work everything is good, truck sputters once, then engine cuts out and back in several times. able to coast in to parking lot. Engine cranks hard and fast but will not start. waited about 20 min tried again and it started, drove about 100 yds and it dies again. waited a few minutes turned the key on for about 10 sec then tried to started and it started. It ran for about 30 to 45 seconds and shut down. Will go check the MAF (had problems with it before when truck would not start). will check PCM. any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

when is it dying? when u come to a stop or is it inconsistant? it may be ur fuel pump or filter
check fuel filter
check trouble codes for fuel pressure problems
check MAF sensor
check O2 sensor on exhuast (may be dirty which would mess up the reading for the fuel:air mixture)

if u arent very engine-savvy or dont have a repair manual, i suggest taking it to a shop

Thanks sidearm, unfortunally I was not able to bring it anywhere to get chip reader hooked up to see what faults were showing, So I had to send it to the stealership for repairs. Turns out it was the "crankshaft postion sensor" that was bad, had I know that I would be replacing it in my garage but had to get to work so I paid the price for learning something new. Side note that CPS is in a bad spot for changing out. WOW.

When I read your first post, the CPS was the first thought.
Corroded connector/loose etc.
If that sensor does not work, nothing else works.
Mass Air meter won't normally cut the motor off even if diconnected because fuel, air and ignition are still in play..

actually, when i installed my aem CAI (which involves screwin around with the MAF sensor), i didnt have the sensor sealed perfectly with the hose clamps and my truck would start, choke a couple times, then die.
