Manual locking hubs???

I have read a lot of the IWE threads lately because of some issues with my 4wd. I have not had my Ford long; And this may be a really dumb question but....Does any body make a manual locking hub conversion kit for these year trucks to bypass the vacuum system and all their issues?

No, and it's unlikely there will ever be with the way it's built.

It would be nice if there was a way to "cap off" the vacuum system and have a manual kit to convert to. Oh well...I can dream.

agreed

in the off road world manual hubs are far superior to autos.

autos tend to grenade, and the front axles catch way more wear with autos then manual.

i'd support the conversion on my 2005 aswell, but in teh mean time ill be sure to run it in 4x4 at least once a moth to keep things moving

ummm no, no hubs at all. just a shift motor in the transfer case. crawl under the truck with the truck in 2wd the front shaft does not spin free, front shaft spins all the time. hubs on f150 went out with the 2003 model i believe.

It is a vacuum hub set up. The axles should not turn in 2wd unless the truck is off due to lack of vacuum.

Nope....not quite right.....

When you are in 2wd....there is vacuum running through the solinoid behind your battery....however when you shift to 4 wheel drive...it removes that vacuum allowing the spring loaded hubs (or the integrated wheel ends) to reingage and lock you into 4 wd.

In 2003 and prior the hubs defaulted to unlocked, however 2004 and later they default to locked if you lose vac.

Go look it up.... IWE

In my reading (I've got this issue myself), I'd heard of people uncoupling the vacuum on the IWE, causing the hubs to remain locked in. From this point, is there any way to manually lock the thing into 4WD? I've seen people mentioning that this can be done, but they never went into great detail. Storm's acoming, and having a truck with mere 2WD is kinda pathetic.

(In my case, I'm pretty sure the transfer motor is on the fluke, or otherwise shot).
