Did you check the fuses under the hood as well? sounds like the fuel bowl heater may have shorted out.

Yes, it has, it's on the passenger side kick panel in the cab.

Not meaning to hijack this thread but it was on topic-- I have a pcm fuse that is shorting. I do know the pcm fuse goes to the fuel heater also. I had it towed to the dealer to fix some recall issues ($70 towing, $70 diagnostics). I have seen the fuel heater at the bottom of the fuel filter bowl before and this doesn't seem so hard to fix. The dealer wanted $290 to fix it and that is just a little too steep for me (I heard other people have problems with this dealer and they already changed the diagnostics once so I am a little leery). When replacing the fuel filter this doesn't seem that hard to fix as I have taken the element out once several years ago. Has anyone had experience with this and do I need to second guess the dealer's diagnosis? The PCH fuse was shorting and the dealer's diagnosis came back that it was the fuel heater. I did ask them as to whether the short was in the wires and they did say that they checked that and that it was not in the wires leading up to the fuel heater (I hope I can believe them).

Thanks,

Just unplug the connector on the heater at the fuel bowl. It will cost you nothing and fix your problem if the heater is in fact shorting out. Then later you can decide if you want to replace the heater or just leave it be.

Thanks, works great. Do you know what temp I have to worry about as far as cold side? We are getting into the lower 20s this time of the year but hopefully things will warm up.

I honestly don't know. I've read where quite a few people have eliminated it completely with no problems. Ed @ y2k can probably get you a good price on a new one if you want to replace it. I'd like to know the benefit of the fuel bowl heater myself and if it's needed, or why it isn't needed.
