New engine and truck won't start
2002 F150 w/5.4L
I had a guy replace my bad 4.6 with a good 5.4 and now my truck won't start without using a remote starter connected to the solenoid. It will not start with the key. The original harness and PCM are still in use. Could the key lose its programming?
Anyone have any thoughts to the issue?

What do I check about this circuit? Is it a fuse? Relay? I need a little guidance.

It sound fine but it hasn't really been driven yet. I had to take the truck back last night from the mechanic because he's had it for 2 months and has gotten nowhere with it and wants more and more money. Now I'm on my own and need help.
How can it start with a remote starter and not with the key? I don't think its the PATS because the THEFT light doesn't blink rapidly when the key is turned and cranking the engine.

If it starts and runs using the remote starter connected to the solenoid it is not a PATS issue. The problem has to be in the starter circuit , but not the solenoid as it is already working as you describe. Places to look would be between the battery and the solenoid.
Which include the ignition switch , neutral safety switch and any wiring between . But the most likely problem is some wiring left disconnected or loose from the engine swap . I assume the starter worked before the swap.

What kind of remote start system do you have installed in your truck? It's possible that the programing of the remote start is not letting you use the key, just the remote start. There are 2 different banks of programming with Ford Accessories remote starts. Kinda like the DIC display it lets you programm personal preferances.
