Hi-Po rearend

I am building a 460 for my '67. I dont know rearends and am curious about swaps or build-ups. Best route? I saw a truck similar to mine that has a Torino rear end. The driver said it had not been narrowed and it had 15 wides under it! Is this possible? I have the 3.70s (stock 6 banger rear end now). Will this hold up. Can a rookie put lockers in? Does anyone in Dallas area have what I need? What is the best way to do this? Pricing each step looks like it will cost around 1K! WOW! Please share the wisdom. Thanks

Hi-Po rearend

If your truck is an F100, the nine inch rear end is strong enough for a 460. The 3.70 gears will give excellent take-off acceleration and good pulling power. However, on the highway you rpm's will run pretty high (around 3000 rpm depending on tire sizes) and fuel milage will suffer. For at least $1000 you can have any rearend narrowed and you can run 20 inch slicks with box floor and suspension modifications! You might want to consider some sort of posi unit to help harness the extra horse power and torque your 460 will put out. These can run anywhere from $300 to $600 for most units. Good luck!

As far as the locker install question goes, there is an excellent write up in the technical articles section of this web site.
