I've not had any experiance with the "rage of the age" Edelbrock carbs, but I've seen them in the local Discount Auto Parts stores, and they also sell the kickdown arm separate, so it doesn't look too hard to change one, I've had Holleys built with the arm and they work great with stock kickdown linkages.
I've got an Edelbrock 600 cfm on top of my 351W. I had to purhase Edelbrock's adapter for Ford kickdowns and then used a standard kickdown rod from the throttle to the the tranny. I do have some adjustments to make, however, 'cause when I kick it down WOT it'll drop all the way to first and wrap my engine up tighter than a drum!! 3/4 throttle kicks it down one gear and gives the passing power I need. If you want, I can look up the part number and send it to you; also have some picks that I could send via e-mail that shows the linkage setup if you want.
I've been using Edelbrock carb on my built 390 w/auto for several years, I used the kick down and adapter at first but it's ugly and wierd, and I finally took it off, just have to pull down to 2nd manually if needed.
Steve, thanks.. but for right now I have decided to rebuild my holley and give it one more chance.. but if I decide to switch to the Edelbrock I will be back intouch..
