Dually truck origins?

Well, I have been obsessed with dually trucks for as long as I can remember. I have an itching question that I need to get some clarification on. Who started producing dually trucks first in pick ups? I’m not talking about big rigs but pickups only. Any thoughts? I have seen some videos of 80s pick up truck with dually bed on it...mostly Chevy.
pictures welcome....

Oh, man. If you're talking pickups with internal combustion engines, there were Model T's with duallies! Not sure if any from the factory, but definitely upfitters were offering them.

you can probably even go back and find horse drawn wagons with dual wheels for weight distribution and/or traction...

Per Wikpedia the first purpose was a backup wheel in case of blew up.
A set of dual wheels (on pickup trucks, known as a dually). A tandem assembly is a redundant backup system, if one tire fails the second will maintain support, allowing the vehicle to keep driving
Glossary of trucking industry terms in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Now with better reliability -the trend goes towards wide singles.

For the first factory produced, 1-ton dually w/pick-up bed, I would say Chevy/GMC in 1973.
Lotsa 1-ton duallies with flatbeds/service boxes from every manufacturer before then, even International.

Ok, let me rephrase, I mean the PICKUP trucks that look like the current model dually trucks from Ford. That is F-350 /450/550. Small body huge rear….

Per Wikpedia the first purpose was a backup wheel in case of blew up.
Unfortunately Wiki is sometimes uninformed...

at 20,000# per axle, 2 tires have to carry 10,000# each , or 4 tires have to carry 5,000# each...

until recently 2 10,000# tires cost a whole lot more than 4 5,000# tires...

Try rephrasing that again? The model T was available with a pickup body and bed... And a little googling will find plenty of Model A and Model B Fords with pickup beds and duallies, enough to make me think it was a factory setup.

The only ones I know that look like the current model dually trucks from Ford are the, errr, current model dually trucks from Ford.....

International Harvester : Dually Pickup : eBay Motors (item 180441544453 end time Dec-08-09 21:06:56 PST)

(1939 International 1 ton dually)
