'06 Ford F150 FX4 -- 4WD Not Engaging
#16
I've been fighting the same problem for 2 months. I think I traced the problem to corroded contacts in the transfer motor connector. Cleaned them with electronic cleaner and used a small flat blade screwdriver to knock off the larger pieces of corrosion. Now I get a 4x4 HIGH light flicker, transfer case engages and no light engine running or not. Yet when I select 4x4 LOW I get the clunk, and the light comes on. When the problem first started and I hadn't gotten to the corrosion issue, when it would work, every worked or didn't. ? ? ?

That suggestion to cleaning the connections at the transfer case and applying good dose of dielectric grease is a great one, I use the stuff on a lot of contacts on my Gold Wings and light bulbs when ever have them apart and plug boots.
Photo didn't move but somehow it was saying pic not available? I simply quoted and reapplied same link? Tried to edit the post but it wouldn't let me do that.

Sounds like shift solenoid-motor.
Try cleaing around it for any road debris-dirt, give it a coule tapes with rubber mallet etc.
If you don't use 4wd alot or if you use it alot in dirt or mud, you should exercise it by placing it in low, then driving forward and baackwards several times, then do same in high.

having the same problem replaced motor and now the 4x4 engages however the high light flashes for a split second and low works perfect.
I am now having this same issue since replacing the transfer case motor.......did any one come up with solution to this.

thanks guys... my truck hasn't been able to go into 4x4 for about a week because of this problem. just tried it and it worked!! i also jiggled some wires around so maybe that was part of the issue too. interestingly enough i had been using my 4x4 regularly all winter and it just cut out suddenly after i had it boosted so it was really bugging me. couldn't figure out what happened. awesome. solved.

2004 F150 4wheel probs
my truck makes a noise while driving occasionally in the front end. It will make a clicking sound and then when I stop it make a loud clunk. Could it be the 4 wheel drive trying to kick in? Tonight I tried to put it in 4 wheel drive but I only got a flicker of a light. But when I put it in 4 wheel low I get a light and it actually went in 4 wheel drive. Any suggestions? I don't believe that it engaged in 4 wheel high but I know it engaged in low

2007 f150 4x4 won't engage
I HAVE A 2007 FORD F150 FX4 EXT CAB V8 THE DEALER THAT I BOUGHT THE TRUCK FROM TOLD ME EVERYTHING WORKED ON IT AND THAT IT HAD BEEN CHECKED BY BOTH DEALERS. I GO TO USE THE 4X4 THE FIRST TIME AND IT DOESNT WORK SO I TAKE IT BACK AND MIND YOU I HAVE A WARANTY... WELL IT DOESNT COVER THE SHIFT MOTOR AND THE DEALER SAYS IT WILL BE $684 TO FIX IT. I HAE NEVER HAD TO FIX ONE ARE THEY WAY OFF OR IS THAT GONNA BE ABOUT HOW MUCH IT WILL COST?

New motor is about $100. ... with out some TESTING, they have no idea that the motor is the problem.

Manual shift to 4 wheel drive - no 4x4
I heard a sharp bang while deer hunting and now don't have 4 wheel drive. I have a manual transfer and the dash light applies to the high or low I switch to, but doesn't engage and hear a chatter when put under a load. I haven't checked anything yet as it drives fine in 2 high and no chatter without a load, but the snow will fly soon and would like info as to first steps to take in repairing. I plan on attacking the situation soon and any help will be appreciated.
