What type of sound, if any do you hear from your True trac? I just had mine installed, I hear a slight, sandpaper sound from the rear. Also, the housing was warm to the touch. I never touched it before, so I am not sure how warm they get normally. I called the shop that installed it, he wants to see it again in the morning. Just curious to hear what your experiences have been.
No sound coming from mine, even right after install. The diff will be warm to the touch, that is why we also replaced with the 08 alum finned cover, to help a little with the heat plus it looks nicer than the rusty old one.
sorry, don't mean to hijack and this is probably a NOOB question but exactly what components does the true trac replace in the diff? I am wondering because i was looking into them as well, but i also want to go from 3.73 to 4.30 or even higher, so i am looking to "kill two birds". Do you just trash my 3.73 and purchase a 4.30 true track and call it done, or do you need other 4.30 gear parts to work with the true trac?
As I recall the true trac doesn't change the gear ratio. The ring gear that you have is put back onto the true trac. I don't believe that fords axle has difference in the app, unlike others that will have different part #'s for diff gear ratios.
I think it's 4.10 and down and 4.56 and up actually, with the D60 front diff. I might have that wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's that way in at least the D60.
