I got mine at NAPA, I don't remember how much they were but I am pretty sure it was less than $5.00. Yes, you can use a hanger or welding rods, but these are MADE for the job and work much better, and without damage, scrapes, and scratches..
You can use 4 nails to get the factory player out.
When you install the new one I strongly recommend the wiring harness adapter. Do not cut your factory wiring. Also, I would solder the connections or use posi-locks. Those crimp connectors suck.
When you get the factory radio out, for a little bit of extra work, you can pull the glove box out. This will give you enough room to get your arm up behind where the radio will be going. It helped me get an iPod USB cable out to the glove box and some RCAs back to the amp. It also helped me get all the wires tucked in nicely behind the unit when I was pushing it it.
I forgot to mention before. You insert the tool or nails/pins and push toward the sides and then pull out. I agree with removing the glove box, that makes things alot easier.
