surging or missing and a few other Q's

i just bought this 1999 f250 and it runs and drives good. my first consern is at idle sitting still or when i rev it, it runs fine and when i get up to speed the truck runs fine but when i give it gas to accelerate to go up a hill or pass someone the truck starts surging or missing. the engine light never comes on and i've checked for DTC's and there were none. the plugs where just replaced from what the guy said i got it from. also i'm going to need to put a clutch in it and when i called to get a price the guy asked me if i had a non adjusting or a adjusting clutch. is there a way to adjust these clutches. what do i need to look for to tell the differance between the two. also is there anything special i need to look out for or do when i do the clutch? other than that the truck runs good. i just have these two problems to adress.

Sounds like a coil is going out. I have been going through this for the past year and a half since my fleet (3 e series vans) is getting old. I have a `97, `98, and `00 all with 5.4l engines and they seem to be having the same issue starting at around 130,000 miles. When I drive them with this problem they only act up when I'm cruising in overdrive and it kinda feels like it's a tranny problem.

i think i found my problem i talked to a couple of techs to day and they said that these triton engines runn like crap if they dont get enough air into the engine. i bought a new air filter and cleaned the trottle body really good and drove the truck to the store, fuel station and took the long way home and it never missed or stumbled once. pretty easy fix. i just hope it stays that way.
