Good emission free 460 carb out of the box?

My truck is now officially exempt from emissions (1986 Ford F250 460) and the PO tried to fiddle with the carb, already pulled some emissions stuff off and generally cobbled somethings up. I'm leaning toward putting on an Edelbrock 650. Do these come dialed in pretty food for this size motor? A guy at work bought the same carb for a 302, so I wonder how 'out of the box' it is. I was reading other threads about putting a stock match back, but there are tabs cracked off, the adjustment screw that is a bear to get to was cracked and a general mess. I'd like to throw an intake on it, but we'll see what the tax man coughs back up. I'd prefer to do the intake a the same time, but it runs as, so I'm in no rush, I'd just like it to move a little better. I wasn't sure if they are pre-set-up for 302, 350 400 460 ect....

I have had very good luck with the Edelbrock Performer 750 with electric choke(1411) on my 460, other than setting the idle mixture it was pretty much bolt on and go on my old stock engine. My new engine it needs some tuning for, but, it ran great for 7 years on my stock engine. The electric choke carbs are jetted leaner, more for a stock engine than the manual choke ones.
I'm not sure how a 650 will perform out of the box on a 460, I know it works pretty well on a 351W.

I put a Edelbrock 600 on a 460 by mistake (didn't know better and someone had what I like to believe is a faulty cfm calculator) and she couldn't get out of her own way going up a hill (backfiring thru the carb even) had to install different metering rods and springs (as recommended by Edelbrock) that made it much better, but it seemed that it still wasn't enough. I would go with a 750 minimum next time around.

i bought a 650 cfm for my old pontaic 305 chebby.the holly on my 460 was fubared and i put the edelbrock on.the truck runs much better.you will have to do some fine tuning to get the most out of it.edelbrock sets these things so they will work on a 289 to 460,so fine tuning is a must.
