There are 4 wires on the back of the tach that need to be hooked up.

Signal, goes to one of the wires from the sensor (either one)
Ground, goes to the other wire from the sensor
12+, goes to a switched power source
2nd Ground, goes to, uh, Ground

Piece 'o cake.

I was confused cuz I dont have any power to either of the 2 wires I added (11 and 12 on the connector) but I do get a jumpy tach when I am cranking my engine, so there must be some kinda power there already. I ran the wires out to the engine bay, so I will just grab a gear housing when I get some $ and time to pull my pump again. Thanks!

Do you mean you don't have any power to the 2 wires going to the engine? You shouldn't, they will carry a very low signal from the sensor to the tach. Once you connect the sensor it should all be good. Let me know if you can't find a housing and I'll see if I can scare one up.

Yup thats what I mean. I will let you know, Dyoung14 offered me one but the sensor is bad, I may see how much they want for one in the yard, they got 2 of them.

I've got an 86' F-250 with a factory tach in the dash, but the previous owner replaced the 6.9 with another 6.9 that does not have the correct IP drive gear cover to install a tach pick up sensor. I picked up an IP drive gear cover with the threaded bung, but my question is whether or not the IP drive gear is any different from tach/no tach motors?

Will I also need to install a different IP drive gear along with the housing to hook my factory tach back up?
