Child Lock on rear doors

It's a common occurrence for both Expeditions and Navigators. The only solution I can think of is A) don't slam the doors so hard (seriously - the force of slamming it forces the tab upwards to the lock position) or B) put in a piece of rubber to keep it from moving.

I've never tested this out but I thought I noticed this one time... If the kid is pulling on the door handle (trying to open the door) when you hit the unlock button, it throws that little safety switch. This used to happen to me a lot but since the kids got the cell phones and video games, they are not in such a hurry to get out of the car anymore.

You can train your child. After multiple times of locking them in because they are not aware of the real world, they can begin to see the cause and effect of their actions. If you let a child lead then who is the parent?
And yes if you pull the interior or exterior the door as you lock unlock with the driver door control panel or key fob the door will default to the lock position.

Remove the Yelling Child
This would upset the child since she likes the Nav more than I do. But the piece of rubber or screw sounds good. I've had many Mercs and Lincolns with this feature but never experienced this problem until the Nav. Oh well......I drove it in the snow for the first time today. It was like the snow wasn't there. For that experience its worth this little frustration. Thanks for all the feedback...at least I know I'm not the only one.....

I actually pulled the door panel and kept tweaking the attached rod until the latching stopped. Part of the problem is slamming the door, and mostly with mine it was every time you used the inside door handle would cause the switch to slowly move to "lock" position. It would take anywhere from two pulls to about 4 pulls before it was locked again. Just a slight more, or less, bend at the existing bends and problem was solved. two years so far without a single incident.
Of course the screw thing works too and is a lot easier.
