Guess what I found?

I posted yesterday about my transmission problem and one reply was to check the filter. Since this was a brand new rebuild I didn't think about checking it but last night I dropped the pan and lo and behold the filter dropped out with the pan. Little background 94 F-150 4X4 with the 5.8L and E4OD transmission. I also pulled a code 636 which is a TOT sensor out of range. Where is this sensor and how do you fix it? Can I just clear this code by pulling the negative battery cable? I assume that the filter not being in was probably the cause of most of my problems (I Hope). Any suggestions on the code would be greatly appreciated.

636 indicates the TOT sensor (part of the transmission solenoid pack) is below the minimum temperature. This is usually user error. Did you have the truck up to operating temperature BEFORE running the KOEO tests? If not, it was user induced.

Great to hear it was the transmission filter causing your other problem.

Good that you found the filter problem. Make sure that an old sealing washer from a previous filter is not still in place. If it was me, I would get a new Ford 4x4 filter for it.
Yes you can clear the codes by disconnecting the battery for about 10min.
As far as I know the trans temperature sensor is fixed in the solenoid block and is not available seperately. However the problem may be with the external wiring or plug. Examine the wires closely and clean the plug connectors.
