1994 F150 Exploration Vehicle Build.

I have asked a ton of questions and have gotten great info from all of you, and have not gotten flamed yet. Yippee. So I guess I will start a build thread for my 1994 F150 which I want to use as a trail riding, camping rig/ daily driver. Check out SafariPacific.com to get some Ideas of what I want to do. That is my inspiration for my build. I'll update as I go and I will just start asking my questions on this thread so not to spam the forum.
This should be an interesting build because: 1) I am going to start school so I can get my GI Bill rolling, however I have no other income. 2) I am a very good mechanic- just dont know much about vehicles yet. I worked on jets in the Air Force 3) I'm living in an apartment so everything will be done in the parking lot for now.
I hope this benefits at least one person, and if not I hope it entertains a few of you guys. I would love input and ideas if you have them.

Well here we go----

Here is what I am starting with

1994 F150, 5.0 with 200K, E4OD, Bone stock except for the K&N filter.
The picture shows it with 33's on the nice factory wheels. I just picked all that up for $184.

Here is what it looks like right now

It took about 3 hours with Meguiars Ultimate Rubbing compound BY HAND, but I got it to shine.

So total invested so far- $1000

I am going to pick up my new Monroe Reflex rear shocks tomorrow and get them put on. Im also going back to the pick-n-pull tomorrow to see what they have. I saw a camper shell there, just have to make sure it is for a short bed. After the Cash For Clunkers bull**** there are a lot of good vehicles at the salvage yards. The F150 I got the wheels and tires off of was in fantastic shape. The motor is garbage now but I am going to pick the rest clean!!

Immediate things that need attention are the front brakes and the exhaust. The exhaust is becoming an issue because one of the previous owners got rid of the catalytic converter. I think I will just take a full exhaust from one of the trucks at the scrap yard and bolt it up for now.

Also I have never changed disc brake pads. How long will this take? I will have to do it on a Sunday so the apartment management isnt here patrolling the parkinglot.

Shouldn't take very long. Assuming you are doing it in the parking lot with only hand tools it shouldn't take you much more than an hour IF everything comes apart ok. That is as long as the rotors don't need to be turned or replaced. As others have said many times on this forum, buy a Haynes or a Chilton manual if you haven't done so already.
