UPDATE : F150 SPARK PLUGS YOU HAVE TO READ.
The rest of the story is....
I am looking in a car and driver magaxine and come across an artical about Fords president and Ceo. "Name intensionally left Blank" So i think to myself, I going to send him an email. 20 minutes later I found his email address online and sent him a quick email. 20 minute later he personally emails me back, an hour after that someone from Ford executive division is calling me on my cell phone."Name intensionally left Blank" After she calls the dealership Ford agrees to pay $500.00 towards the repair. I am still out $1600.00

I don't mean to come off as a jerk here... but you're lucky you got anything out of them.
After your ace mechanic buddy broke a plug, Ford really didn't have any responsibility to do anything for you.
And Ford knows of this problem. They put out a TSB on how to get these plugs out without breaking. There is a tool to use.
Just because Ford had a ****ty design and you didn't know everything, doesn't mean it's Ford's responsibility entirely.

Anybody and everybody has the right to be indignant about this problem. For all those who like pointing out it's not Fords problem, shell out over $500 and join the local support group. We're all here to help and this guys paid $1600 for plugs and a good cathartic rant. I've been there. Rant on my friend, rant on.

I may be lucky to have recieved any help at all, but when is the last time you had or would pay a Ford dealership $700.00 just to change out your spark plugs. I also had three different type removal tools one from snap on, one from lisle, and the other was THE FORD FACTORY EXTRACTION TOOL. Three plugs broke off, came out and we all know that the other did not. I did the removal just as the Ford service bulliten.
IF FORD KNOWS OF THE PROBLEM, FORD SHOULD HAVE JUST MAILED SOMETHING TO FORD OWNERS, TELLING THEM TO CHANGE THE PLUGS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
A L S O, the ford dealership broke some type of vacuum line, and rather than calling me and selling me a new part, the glued it back together, it broke driving it home. I GET TO TAKE IT BACK !!!!! YEA!!!

The Factory published maintainance books say replace plugs at 100k miles.
Is it my fault that they had began to fail at 88k miles? So I chose to replace then 12k miles earlier than the factory published spec.
MAYBE THE BOOK SHOULD SAY. "INTELLEGENTLY YET CRAPPY DESIGNED SPARK PLUGS". THE ENGINEER WHO DESIGNED THEM FEEL THEY SHOULD LAST UNTIL 100K MILES. IF THEY DO GOOD LUCK CHANGING THEM OUT.
but i see your point MAYBE, it is my fault because it is my truck, if a FORD FACTORY (keyword FACTORY) MECHANIC would have broke them it still would have been my fault, BECAUSE IT IS MY TRUCK.
I DO AGREE, THE SERVICE DEPT SUCKS!

the new plugs are welded and you are to put anti seeze on the lower portion of the plug before installing.

I recently paid $650 for an oil change, tranny and t-case fluid change. I was wuoted $200 less than that. So I know all about paying a crap load of money for something so simple.
Also, you never specified any of that information in the first post. Changing them early was a smart move. Getting the tool was a smart move. Did you soak them with penetrating oil for a day before the change? Did you follow the TSB?
Again, I wasn't trying to sound like a jerk. There was just a lack of information.

david00f150,
You can search this forum for "spark plug removal tool" and probably find about two dozen threads on removing the plugs. Most will have good advice, some will not. From your list of vehicles it does not appear that you are a novice at working on cars. In those threads you will find pointers to the latest TSP and the best removal tool. There are several of each. Some folks have posted some very good 'how to' with pictures. After reading those and you find that it might be a bit much for your level or expertise, then you may want to take to a certified mechanic. Get the correct tools have some patience and you can do it. The good folks on this forum will help talk you through it.
