Rear axle swap?

Could I take a rear axle on a new 99-02 F250 and swap it to my 96 F250? I want disk breaks all the way around for better stoping power. Could it be done if I found one with the same gear ratio?

I think you can doug, but let someone else who knows better tell you. I do believe they sell kits to convert drums to discs so you won't have to swap the whole thing.
OT, I think it would be cool to put in a split rear w/5 speed manual! I wonder if that has been done yet?

the super duty has metric hubs OBS has standard. I think it can be done but takes some modifying to get the park brake to work and would have to change the poportioning valve. Don't quote me to this there may be more to it

i had measured them at one point. the springs were centered the same, so in theory it would "bolt in" but you would have the wheel differences and teh driveshaft mount is different, plus you still have to modify the park brake cables. in my opinion its cheaper to either build a disc kit (about 300 in parts) or buy the disc conversion

the calipers come with the bolts. the calipers, lines and pads are from an 80's chevy pickup front end and the rotors are off a 96-97 ford 350 van rear.

tj emailed them to me, you can get them from "bronco graveyard.com" i printed them out and used a plasma cutter to cut the brackets out of 1/2 inch plate. its a one peice mount plate.

You would happen to still have the email would you? If not I'll pm Tj. I have a cutting torch so that will do.

FYI, someone is making late 70's / early 80's Cadillac Eldarado calipers again. The Cadillac Eldarado had rear disk brakes with a mechanical parking brake. People started using them for every vehicle imaginable to convert the rears over to disk, and they quickly became hard to get. Now they are available again in the ~$80 range.
