I have wanted to do this with my 6.0 in sig. In winter mine runs 185 with winter front in the city and about 195 on the highway with winter front. I would like to see her run a bit hotter, better mileage, better complete combustion. Trick is, I think the low fan comes on around these temps, so I dont know how well it will work.

Personally I don't think this is a good idea since everything is now dependant on a computer that is programmed for the factory components.

There is no "set" temperature. It is based on a combination of numerous parameters.

I also want to do this. only for the winter tho

but one thing to take notice is that the temp of the water effects the EGR cooler and oil cooler.

I wouldn't do it. Raise your water temps a few degrees and it raises your oil temps a few more due to the cooling efficiency. You end up just putting hotter oil through your turbo and injectors.

I've never seen a 203* thermostat for a 6.0L. I only knew of them being made for the 7.3L.

My factory t-stat read 190* to 210* on it if I remember. I am guessing a 203* won't opne at all til 203*? Seems too hot to me. My ECT already hits 210* just driving around town in traffic in the New Mexico summer.

I saw that for the 7.3. I wondered about the 6.0? I'm unclear as to whether or not it would be a benefit?

I did it to my 7.3 and it was one of those things that I couldn't really tell if it helped. Sounds good though to me in theory especially in the winter if you drive short trips.

In a hot climate, going up on t-stat temp would be disastrous.

In a cold climate, going to a hotter t-stat would probably not harm the motor, but would give you a little more "headroom", much like putting in a 180-degree stat in July in TX.

You'd have a little more heat in the heater, the engine wouldn't run QUITE as cold (an issue when the engine will air-cool under little to no load), wouldn't cool off after shutdown quite so fast... The benefits are incremental. No jaw-dropping, eye-popping changes will be substantiated.

Just don't do it in a region where temps get over freezing (32*F/0*C). Base engine temps 10 degrees hotter, anywhere below Interstate 80 (i.e. 2/3 of the continental US), will cause more problems than it will solve.
