Start a new thread for your problem. And in the thread tell us what you are driving, year, model, engine. The button called "new thread" is located in the main elec forum in the upper left corner.

Ok here goes it's a 99 explorer... Was driving the other night hit a big bump lost dash lights, radio illumination, and running lights..and oil pressure guage quit .... No blown fuses .. I'm sure it's related to a tan white wire issue.. The question is is my girl noticed a little smoke the other day from the column near the hazzard switch... My guess is it is related I haven't had a chance to check into it yet though... Or am I looking at two seperate issues (possibly bad multifunction switch) allthough the lights are the only problem that has shown up so far

Play with the dash light dimmer and see if they come on. There should be a spot where they come on full brightness and then you go further and the domelight comes on.

I have a 97 f150 with a similar problem. The headlight switch has always been tricky ,I have to move **** back and forth for headlights to stay on. Now I am blowing 15 amp fuse under hood. I am thinking its the switch. Ford wants 150.00 for new. Found one in a junk yard but it must be off a newer vehicle. 97 has three connectors and this switch has only two. Can this modified or do I have to keep looking for exact fit. Any feedback would be helpful.

I checked Autozone. Depending on what type you have, they want about $150 also.

Rockauto sells the replacement switch module starting around $55, depending on the specific version needed. You can always find a 5% discount code which usually covers most of your shipping charge.

I am trying to help a woman 800 miles away. 1989 Ranger, no other info. Her son plugged in a trailer that had been sitting in the dirt a long time and now she has taillites but no brake lights. Sure, its the fuses but to help her, is there a picture somewhere showing where the fuse panel is and which fuse it is? thanks

Fuse Panel 1989 Ranger

Located inside the passenger compartment, under the drivers-side of the instrument panel.

She says the fuses are good and I will ask if its hot to the fuse. I will ask if its hot to the brake light switch.
How does power get to the fuse panel? Which color wire?
Since the brake lights are interrupted by the flasher, Is it possible the flasher fried?

Check ALL the fuses. Or look on the panel you take off to get access to the fuse box, it should have a diagram on it of the fuse box.

I was looking up some more info on your second question, and I am getting some conflicting info on the fuse box locations. So I do not trust that diagram above that I gave you. There are not that many fuses, so if you can't find a diagram on the panel, just pull them all one at a time and check them.
